Protecting the Trieux estuary, the castle is the last witness of a defensive system built between Pontrieux and the Br\u00e9hat archipelago. Tradition reports that in the 11th century a man named Jagu would have had a motte built which was gradually transformed into a stone fortress in the 12th and 13th centuries. Destroyed during the War of Succession of Brittany (1341-1365), the castle was rebuilt from 1405 for noble lady Catherine de Troguindy, owner of the place, after authorization of the Duke of Brittany Jean V (1389 \u2013 1442), \u201c on condition that the duke would always have his free entry without hindrance from the said Catherine. Raised to the rank of barony by the Duke of Brittany Fran\u00e7ois II in 1487, the land of La Roche-Jagu passed into the hands of several families under the Ancien R\u00e9gime.<\/span><\/p>

Nestled in a park of more than 70 hectares, the Ch\u00e2teau de La Roche Jagu is surrounded by greenery, flowers and water points, making the walk very pleasant. The size of the park allows many discoveries as well as very beautiful points of view on this imposing fortress.<\/span><\/p>
